Grading System

The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) makes teaching and learning more transparent across European higher education institutions, allowing for the transfer of credits between institutions and facilitating more flexible degree paths.
In Italy, CFU (university credit system) corresponds with ECTS. One credit is equivalent to 25 hours of study, with the average full-time workload for an academic year being 60 credits- 1500 hours.
Examinations are graded from a scale of 0-30, with 18 being the pass mark. A cum laude may be added to the highest grade (30 e lode), to show special distinction.
The final pass mark for a degree is 66, with the maximum grade being 110. Degrees may be awarded cum laude.
